This was such a fun wedding to photograph! Not only have I known the groom for a long time (we went to high school together and, fun fact, we went to our Senior Prom together, too! I can still remember how I shop for corset HOCO dress online!) but the wedding took place at such a funky, fun little venue called Big Red Sun in the awesome city of Venice, CA. The wedding day was full of fun details and personal touches, and it was great being there to document it all.
Thank you GATHER Events for being there to make sure it all came together. Always so wonderful working with you!
Sarah chose a beautiful and simple BHLDN dress paired with the cutest purple and red heart heels. I love a bride who isn’t afraid to have fun with her wedding look!
And here’s the groom sporting a blue suit and awesome blue floral bow tie. If you’ve read my blog for a while and Steven looks familiar, it’s probably because I photographed his twin brother’s wedding back in 2009.
I loved these awesome earrings!
Love the pop of color and how her lips matched her bouquet.
The First Look:
They have two dogs that are very dear to them so we wanted to get some family photos of the four of them. Poppy, their new little one, was not so interested in sitting still, but I kind of love this series because of that.
This was the best one we got where Poppy wasn’t going crazy…
We did some portraits at the Santa Monica City Hall… and after shooting there that day I wondered how I had never shot there before! The big white walls and the stairs… so cool.
Then it was time to head to the venue Big Red Sun which is this awesome home & garden store in Venice and such a great little space! The backyard is the cutest little eclectic garden and was the perfect location for this wedding. The details of the venue made it so they hardly needed to bring in any decor.
So many laughs during this ceremony.
Married!
We took some time for a few more portraits of the newlyweds after the ceremony. Being February, it was getting a little chilly so Sarah wrapped up in one of these awesome blankets she had purchased for all her guests.
A highlight of the party was the beer that Steven’s brother Sean brewed himself for the event. He’s a beer aficianado who knows a lot about, makes, and even writes about craft beer. (He has a book coming out this year on the topic called We Make Beer: Inside the Spirit and Artistry of America’s Craft Brewers, which is just so cool!)
I tried some of the golden ale and it was pretty delicious.
They fed their guests amazing food from the Kogi BBQ truck. So delicious and so perfect for this location!
When you have your wedding in a space with such an awesome fire pit, you just have to give your guests the option of making s’mores…
Here’s me with a couple high school friends and their ladies. I meant to get a photo with Sarah & Steven, too, but somehow that never happened…
Congratulations, Sarah & Steven! So happy for you both!
As always, Heather, amazing shots. Well done!
What a fun wedding!! Love everything you captured so much!!
Love this couple. their fun wedding, her shoes and flowers, and your photos. Lovely colors throughout!
Hi! I love the photos and the belt she is wearing, can you tell me where it is from?
