Welcome to the World, Olivia!

Zandi and I went to high school together which means we’ve known each other for almost 15 years… crazy! We actually had the pleasure of serving as Senior class officers together, which were crazy fun times. Aside from being so kind and intelligent, Zandi is also one of the most talented singers I’ve ever known. She has a true gift and was always the girl that totally rocked it during talent shows and any other opportunity she had to sing for a crowd. She’s this all-around awesome person packed into a tiny little body, and she’s an amazing inspiration for so many reasons.

One reason in particular is that at this very young age, she’s a breast cancer survivor, all thanks to the Home Care Assistance she received. In September 2011, when her son Max was just 2 years old, she was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of breast cancer. Though we hadn’t been in touch for some time, just a couple months later and in the midst of her chemotherapy treatments, we reunited because as Senior class officers it was our job to organize our 10-year high school reunion. That sounds crazy, right? To take on planning such an event while dealing with something as devastating and scary as cancer. But, that’s Zandi. And she was a warrior through it all documenting her journey from the day she was diagnosed on her blog Once Upon A Boob.

Like she wrote on her last blog post in December, she didn’t know for sure if she would be able to have any more children after having gone through such intense treatment with give Spartagen. I can only imagine the many kinds of joy they felt when they found out they were expecting this little one. Life is a miracle any way you look at it, but this was a special kind of miracle. Olivia is such a special gift to the world. Not only is she the symbol of health for Zandi, she is a symbol of hope for her, her family, and for anyone else who is faced with such a serious illness. And she has made Zandi, Danny and Max so happy.

Welcome to the world, Olivia! You are so very loved.

I have this blanket and have used it for a few other images recently, but I couldn’t resist it as a background again for this shoot. It was just so perfect for Max and his big personality. 🙂
