StopMotion: Marissa… Just Because

Sometimes I get restless and even though I am busy with editing, emails and behind-the-scenes business stuff, I need to find a way to release creative energy. Sometimes this need crops up at midnight when I’m desperately trying to get to bed early to prepare for an early morning. Sometimes I just can’t sleep because I have these ideas dancing through my head- visuals that intensify the moment I try to close my eyes, quiet my mind and drift off into dreamland. One of these “sometimes” occurred the other night and I found myself playing around on my laptop on my couch into the early morning hours… experimenting again with a little stop motion piece from my recent portrait session with Marissa on the Santa Monica Pier.

It’s not a perfect piece- the concept for the video literally developed as I made it in the middle of the night so the shots were never intended to be pieced together like this. But, I like how it turned out and wanted to share it here. There’s something about the concept of making still images move, giving a different kind of life to the still frames I’m used to working with… I’m still figuring out all the nuts and bolts of developing a project like this from start to finish, but it’s definitely something with which I’ll continue to experiment and have fun. Because, I know there will always be nights I won’t be able to sleep before I work with an idea and make it a reality…
