San Francisco and Inspiration

This weekend was amazing. Period. One of my best friends, the lovely Meg Perotti, finally tied the knot in one of the most beautiful and perfect weddings I have ever witnessed. The day was a blur of amazing, loving, fun, funny, pretty, crazy and perfect moments. I was a bridesmaid and used my camera only a little throughout the day… I can’t wait to see the wedding photos as captured by Jasmine– and I’ll wait to post the few photos I took and say a little more about the wedding until then. For now, I’ll just say it was perfect and I’m so happy for Meg and her new HUSBAND Tim. Yowza. 🙂

Today, I spent the day in San Francisco- I love San Francisco. I love the whole vibe of this city and I feel more alive just walking its streets. I had a couple of hours with no plans so I decided to stroll down to SFMOMA to see a photography exhibit I saw advertised. The Art of Looking: Henri Cartier-Bresson. I fell in love and became obsessed after only a few seconds in the exhibit. I found myself getting emotional looking at the photographic prints hanging in front of me. His perspective, the expressions… everything he was able to capture frame after frame… to say I was hugely inspired would be an understatement.

I saw this quote one of the exhibit’s walls and it pretty much sums up exactly how I feel quite often:

“I prowled the streets all day, feeling very strung-up and ready to pounce, determined to “trap” life–to preserve life in the act of living.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson

After checking out all the prints, I went straight to the gift shop to buy the book about the exhibit- I’m so looking forward to reading more about him and his work…

He has so many great images and while difficult to choose favorites, below are a few of them that really struck me:

A few shots I got in and around the museum:

Another artist (I regretfully didn’t write down his name) has this incredible series in which he has photographed his wife and her three sisters every year for 35 years and counting. While the clothing, location and poses change each year, the order of the women in the photograph remains constant. To see them all presented together like this was so amazing and moving.

Dear San Francisco- I think you’re pretty amazing, and I will be back more often. Promise.
