Mammoth Mountain Wedding Photos: Jannette & Scott

When Jannette and Scott hired me to shoot their Mammoth Mountain wedding, I was on cloud nine. A wedding. On the top of Mammoth Mountain?? Doesn’t that sound like the coolest thing ever?? Plus, the bride and groom were really excited about taking photos in the snow. Bonus!

Mammoth is a popular winter destination for Southern California- I have been visiting Mammoth for snowboarding ever since I was in high school and just love getting up there. It’s such an awesome ski resort and is always so much fun. Jannette and Scott are avid snowboarders, so it was fitting that they chose this place as the backdrop for their April Fool’s Day wedding – yes April Fool’s Day. 🙂

Though the day started with clear blue skies, a blizzardy, windy storm rolled in about an hour before the ceremony making the day slightly chaotic, but all-the-more special and memorable! Some people would have freaked about the conditions… ok, we all freaked just a tad… but they were able to move the ceremony inside, everyone witnessed Jannette & Scott exchange vows, and then we went outside and froze for some really awesome photos. 🙂 In my mind, perfect.

A very special thank you to my friend Amelia Strauss for helping me out on this shoot! She brought great energy to the day and didn’t look at me like I was crazy for wanting to keep going back outside for more photos. 🙂

Amelia got this image of Jannette just after getting ready- I love it.

Jannette wore the cutest snow boots under her dress!

A few portraits of the bride before the ceremony (and before the blizzard).

Then I headed up to McCoy Station (a lodge halfway up the mountain) where I met up with Scott for some portraits. I love him for his willingness and eagerness to shoot in the snow! It didn’t phase him one bit.

A few images to set the scene…

Plan C for the ceremony setup was this room at McCoy Station with an awesome view of the mountain.

Then a few inside portraits of everyone…

Amelia snagged these of the wedding party while I was shooting Jannette and Scott. I love how they came together for this series. 🙂

Loved this industrial feel of the stairwell.

It was then time to head outside for some fun snow shots. Scott and his brother Gavin were the willing participants to go out there with me to do some test shots before I made everyone else come out into the freezing cold. You guys rock!

So, they didn’t love me for making them take this shot, but I think it was totally worth it. 🙂 We were out there for about four minutes total, but my fingers were pretty much frozen solid when we were done. It’s an interesting task to try to depress the shutter button when you can’t feel it…

One reason why I appreciate Scott so much… zero hesitation.

After a quick break inside, we came back out a little later to take advantage of the sun breaking through the clouds. It almost looks warm, huh?

One of my favorites…

And finally, my favorite from a series we shot after sunset…

And, because it’s funny… This is what Amelia and I looked like while we were shooting some of the above shots. Fun, fun times!

Amelia, holding the veil while shooting in the blizzard.

Me, during the momentary burst of sun we had to work with. Don’t let the sun fool you…it was still just as cold.

Jannette and Scott- Thank you SO much for this experience. I can’t tell you how much fun I had with you, your friends and families. I hope you enjoy these photos and that they remind you that although the day was hectic and bit crazy, it was special, unique, and all yours. 🙂
