Laurel is a dear friend of mine and an incredibly talented artist. Not only is she a designer for Disney (Hel-lo!), she is a brilliant illustrator with a great style. [Check out her art Web site here.] Stepping into her Los Angeles area apartment, one is served a visual feast — everything from her collection of unique, at-times-creepy toys and dolls, to the textured walls and newly-decoupaged coffee table (Yes! Decoupage! She’s bringin’ it back and it’s totally fabulous…) — everything in this apartment screams creative, artistic, and unique– oh, and a particular obsession with Audrey Hepburn and old films.
This weekend, Laurel had a little get together at her place. Before the other guests arrived, we decided to do an impromptu portrait session in and around her aparment. I had a lot of fun in those 7 minutes of shooting, and got the most amazing shots that I’ve ever been able to take in such a short amount of time. I’m looking forward to doing another shoot with her where I can showcase her one-of-a-kind living space, until then, here’s the fabulous Laurel!
This whole shoot was inspired by the way this floor lamp was lighting up Laurel’s face while we were talking in her living room before any of the other guests had arrived. I saw the light, grabbed my camera (which I try to bring with me most places) and started shooting. Laurel, thanks so much for being so willing to fulfill my crazy photographic visions!
Classic.
Then we moved out onto her stairway where the light was really soft and great.
Love this series. So very Laurel– equal parts glamour, class and silliness.
Love this shot! I took my post-processing a step beyond where I usually go and added many more layers to this image just as an experiment. I love using texture, but I usually don’t use it this heavily. I love how this image turned out as a result of ultimate freedom.
Thanks for modeling, Laurel!
Very nice portraits heather! I really like the black and white shot but the last one is my favorite, great use of texture
Really pretty! I love the texture on that last one
She looks like Audrey Tautou, timeless
one word. AMAZING!!
damn. I’m pale as a mother $#&*@#.
