Sometimes friendships are meant to last only a short while, and sometimes they are meant to last a very long time. My friendship with Laurel started 10 years ago and I’m positive that we will continue to be friends until we are old and gray, and even a little bit crazier than we already are. We have been through tough times together, but have also had so, so many fun times together. Five years ago, we were living in the same apartment building in Los Feliz and she told me that her friend had set her up on a blind date with this guy. She asked me and our other friend Vicky to come over that night so we could talk, drink wine, act silly and help her get ready for her first date with this mystery man. Turns out, that mystery man’s name was Jody and soon it was clear that he was something special.
Their wedding was a perfect reflection of who they are as- relaxed, colorful, creative, unique and so fun. They chose to get married in her parents’ backyard- the home where she had spent most of her years growing up. Jody is from Virginia and they honored his Southern background by serving some amazing, authentic bar-b-Que and offering sweet tea vodka lemonades as their signature cocktail. Every element of the day was handcrafted by Laurel, her mom, aunt or sister, and you could see Laurel’s artistic talent and style shine through in each and everyone of these details. Laurel is such a treasured friend to me and being able to photograph her day was so special to me… here are some of my favorite images from the day.
She found her amazing lace tiered dress at Free People, and it was the perfect dress for her! It was a gorgeous almond-y color and moved so beautifully on the dance floor.

Jody got ready at his and Jody’s home. I love that Ally spied the original invitation painting Laurel had set-up on her easel… Her talent is so awe-inspiring. I love everything she does! And on the right is their amazing dog Ralph- he is one of my favorite dogs on the planet.

And then it was time to go party! They put so much thought into every detail to make sure it reflected their relaxed, fun vibe and it was all so them.
As I mentioned, Laurel is an amazing artist. One of her recent favorite media is linoleum block printing, and she is so talented! She has an Etsy shop you can see here– it’s all so good. I especially love her series on great Los Angeles landmarks. And click here to see her tumblr where she posts these pieces as well as some of the best doodles you will ever see. Below is a simple example of her handprinted linocuts which she used on these awesomely fun brown paper bags to hold the napkin and silverware. Such a great idea!
