One of my very favorite places in all of Los Angeles is Griffith Observatory. I used to live right below it in the awesome little neighborhood of Los Feliz and most weeks hiked up to or around the Observatory at least once or twice. Not only are the views amazing, but the architecture is incredible and the fact that it’s a building dedicated to the study of Space is just so awesome. The Observatory is also the place where Brian, my husband, proposed, so it now also has so much sentimental value. He knew it was my favorite place in LA, and that day he made it even more special to me. 🙂
It’s truly an amazing place- it’s no wonder so many couples want to do their photo sessions there. I recommend it to many of my clients looking for a location that offers both natural and architectural elements. But, as a photographer, it’s sometimes tough to shoot in the same place and each time keep it fresh. As artists, it’s important for us to truly create, and that is hard to do when we are in such familiar surroundings and are fighting the ease of shooting familiar poses in the same places.
For this session I challenged myself to see the Observatory differently. To not shoot it all in the same ways I had done before. To find new little nooks in which to shoot. And to not try to shoot this location in a brand new way, but to shoot it in a new way for me. And Jillian & Mike were such great clients to work with on this! Thank you both for being yourselves in front of my camera- I’m so looking forward to your wedding!
So this particular image isn’t a new perspective… it’s just such a good one I can’t not include it here. 🙂
I think this one is my favorite from the day…
Another shot that isn’t a new perspective, but I just love the feel of it with that sky… <3
