Families at Home Project Sessions – Documenting families during isolation

Staying home. Being able to continue learning at home. Working at home. Happy at home. Sad at home. Playing at home. Making at home. Loving at home. As families, we’ve been mostly doing life at home for the past 2 1/2 months and it’s been an adjustment for all. It’s a historic time to document for your family in a beautiful way.

We’re All in this Together

Like all families at home, my family and I are doing our best to keep the fear and sadness from seeping in. These walls are our sanctuary, and while we definitely are free to feel the feelings here, we are doing our best to live life as we would normally within these walls and make this, as much as possible, a positive time for our family. I know I’m not alone in this and that in spite of so many challenges and so much hardship, I am choosing to see the beauty in having a little more time to focus on what family is, especially in times of hardship- togetherness, support, comaraderie, joy, honesty, and, of course, love.

Toward the beginning of California’s Safe at Home orders, I began safely shooting some very short sessions in neighbors’ front yards simply to get an image or two that would document this time for them. I’m a believer in documenting images that will preserve a family’s legacy for future generations. During these sessions, I wanted to create an image that someone can show to their children and grandchildren in 30 or 50 years and would portray a bit of life during this global pandemic when we were told to stay home, as we will no doubt be telling stories about this time for years to come.

Documenting Families and Preserving Your Stories

After doing a few very short and sweet sessions in this way, I grew to feel like there was more to be told than just one image of a family sitting on a porch. A photo can speak a thousand words, yes. But, there’s so much more to tell about this time than just one photo. We may not be having big weddings or birthday parties, but these are still days to be documented so that we can preserve our stories, especially during this historic time.

And so, since it looks like Los Angeles will be living this way for at least another month, I’m officially launching my Families at Home Project which consists of sessions that are available for booking now through June 30th. These are half-sessions in which I will come to your home (So Cal only) for 25-30 minutes and photograph your family in your front yard and through doorways and windows. I will stay outside, wear a mask when appropriate, and will always stay at a safe distance while I photograph your family in a beautiful way that feels natural and authentic to you.

The Details:

Families at Home Project Sessions | $425
Available now through June 30th
25-30-minute session at your home shot safely and from a distance

Sessions will only be offered on certain days and times in certain areas of Los Angeles in an effort to group sessions together geographically and limit my travel around town. We also found things to do in Houston for kids and our 2 toddlers really had fun!

I’m so happy to be able to be doing the thing I love so much more regularly again- seeing your families, documenting your families, getting to chat with you (from a distance) and creating beautiful images that help to tell your family’s story… it all brings me so much happiness and I’m so thankful to all of you for continuing to support that even during this difficult time for us all. Soon, we will be back to doing life with out so much restriction, but until then, continue to make your homes your happy place and allow me to document the love that will always exist there no matter what.
