Charlotte & Me

I’ve taken thousands of photos of Charlotte since she was born 8 1/2 months ago. No joke. To say I’ve taken tens of thousands of photos of her wouldn’t even be very exaggerated. It’s crazy to think about that, but, if you know me, it’s actually quite understandable. I’ve always been the girl with the camera- I can remember back to the days I had an awful point-and-shoot 35mm- I would beg my mom to take me to Costco or the closest 30-Minute Photo so that I could get my film developed. Even before I was a photographer, taking photos of things helped me to experience them. Then I was introduced to real photography and that need to photograph things as I experienced them only intensified. Now, as a mother, I couldn’t imagine not photographing my sweet girl multiple times a day. If I don’t have my 5DMkIII out doing portraits of her on the bed in her room (the best light in our house!), then Brian and I are documenting her life on our iPhones. Don’t get me wrong- I take time away from the camera to simply play with her and marvel at everything she does and is- but the camera is never too far away in the event that I’m inspired to document something amazing (and I’ll be honest, that’s very often).

Last week, one of my dear friends Megan posted about a new personal project she’s doing that I love- taking at least one great photo of herself a week. As photographers, we get so lost in photographing other people and things that we rarely see the other side of the camera. For the most part, I’m fine with that- there’s a reason I love photography and it’s not to be in front of the camera. 😉 But, it occurred to me that not only do I want photos of Charlotte alone, I want to document our story together, and her with Brian as well. So, in an effort to have great photos of all 3 of us to look back on one day, I’m making it a personal project to photograph Charlotte with me, and Charlotte with Brian, once a week on my “real” camera, and hope to share many of those here on my blog.

Last week was my first shot at it: Charlotte & Me – Week 1 – 1.11.13
