I knew I’d love working with Erika and Bowen ever since our first meeting over Skype when Erika told me she wanted to do a a highly-styled editorial type of engagement session. Honestly, I love photographing people as they normally are and simply find people inspiring, but it’s fun to go a little over the top from time to time and get creative with clients for a truly special session. So, together we came up with a great inspiration board for the session and Erika and Bowen put in a lot of extra effort in getting together their looks and even renting an awesome ’58 Rolls Royce. We came up with a story to loosely guide our shooting, and decided that doing a sunrise shoot would give the session a different vibe than my typical preferred time of shooting which is closer to sunset. This required that Erika begin hair and makeup at 3:15am – that’s dedication!
All of that extra effort totally paid off and we were able to create some really beautiful images together that I think are a fun display of their love and creativity. Here are a few of my favorites from the session- it was so hard to narrow them down!
We did the session on the side of the road on one of LA’s most iconic streets, Mulholland Drive. It had the perfect view of the Hollywood sign which was fun to include in a few shots.
Erika’s rose gold sequin gown is from Rent the Runway – such a great resource for shoots like this and even for special events.
Erika and Bowen – Thank you SO much for everything you brought to this session… It was a joy to work with you both and I’m so looking forward to photographing you again on your wedding day!
